Kristen Rae (Lewis) Larsen of Colorado Springs passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 2. Called “Kris” or “Kristen” by friends and family, and “Grandma” by her treasured grandkids… Grace, Gavin, & Emma. She is survived by her beloved husband Michael Larsen, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April. She and her husband had just been on a wonderful trip to Israel and Rome to see Vatican City.
Born February 28, 1953 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to IJ & Carol Lewis, having moved to Denver as a young girl. She raised her family in Denver and Aurora before moving to Dallas in 1989, returning to Colorado in 2002.
A devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Mary’s, she prayed the rosary daily. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and was a gifted cook and baker. She was crafty and enjoyed a variety of pastimes. A health nut, she was an avid jogger and walker, having walked the El Camino in 2016 with dear friend, Terry Rose.
She is survived by her children; Michael Larsen, Jr of Wiggins, Mississippi, Jeremy Larsen of Dallas, Texas (Luke), Timothy Larsen of Weatherford, Texas (Kim), and Marie Larsen of Dallas, Texas (Ben); Sisters Carolyn, Marolyn, Meredith, Julaine (Dan), and Dana; and a large extended family with deep roots in Colorado.
The Funeral Mass will be Friday at 2 PM at St. Mary’s Cathedral downtown Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in her name to Pikes Peak Citizens for Life.
