Memorial service will be Saturday, June 30 at 1:30 PM at Life Care Center of Colorado Springs, 2490 International Circle, 100 hall (first floor) dining room with Reverend Judy Owsley of Central United Methodist Church, officiating.
Kay was born in Norwood, Colorado to Fanny and Samuel Bowman on April 16, 1937. She went to school and graduated from Norwood High School, where she met Duane Edwards; they subsequently married in 1954. After being stationed in Hawaii during the Korean War, they started Edwards Jewelry Company, where she worked with Duane and her children until shortly after Duane’s death in 1977. After that she worked as a receptionist for The Company West and Citadel Dental, care giver for REM Services, and customer service representative for Progressive Insurance.
Over her lifetime, she volunteered at Penrose Community Hospital, Pikes Peak Hospice, Central United Methodist Church, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. As she was able, she also enjoyed providing respite care for homebound individuals from her church and the general community, including Marie Spoelstra, Ethel Anderson, and Lucille Sams.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents and husband, sisters Jessie “Mike” Hemphill, Maurine “Spark” Bowman, Helen “Ho” Bowman, son Stuart Ward Edwards, and assorted dogs and cats.
She is survived by son Dennis Edwards and daughters Grace Hazell, Christine Ault, and Colene Edwards; her sister Margaret Joan Bowman; and grandchildren Robert Hazell (Lisa), Daniel Hazell, Jennifer Curtis (Matt), Chelsea Hazell, Haley Ault, Madison Ault, and great-granddaughters Amy Curtis and Summer Hazell. Jake will miss their visits and her “secret” handouts, and will now have a loving face to run to, a comfy bed and the “good” treats when his time comes.
In lieu of cut flowers, transplantable and/or potted plants can be sent to: Life Care Center of Colorado Springs, 2490 International Circle, 100 floor, to brighten the common area and/or courtyard.
