Julia Ann (Judy) Norman was born on November 29,1933, in Arkansas City, Kansas, just over the Oklahoma border, and died on February 22, 2021, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her parents, Freda and Oscar Vogt, though hard hit by the Depression, were able to feed their three children thanks to their cow, pigs, chickens, and a garden on a piece of rented land in Oklahoma. Her upbringing, though very frugal, was spiritually very rich. After graduating from high school in Guthrie, Oklahoma, she received a BA in education at Oklahoma State University where she met her future husband, Charles Norman. At OSU she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Phi, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Moving often with her husband, who worked for IBM, she taught in seven elementary schools, and earned an MA with an emphasis in special education.
Most of her adult life was spent in Dallas, TX, where she was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church. During her 40 years there, she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching children in Sunday School, and serving on numerous committees. Among her hobbies and interests were sewing, entertaining, traveling in Europe, and especially, taking her husband and children to various islands. Her working years in Dallas included selling real estate and tutoring, 20 years’ teaching in Highland Park ISD. Tutoring one on one was very rewarding for her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Chuck, her son Jim, and her brother Dr. Don Vogt. She is survived by her daughter Mary of Colorado Springs, her brother Calvin Vogt of Tulsa, and her sister-in-law Carol Vogt of Shawnee, Oklahoma.
