Joyce passed away peacefully at her residence at Sunrise Senior Living in Colorado Springs on June 8th, 2021 at the age of 85. Joyce was born and raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and remained a Canadian Citizen throughout her life. She was very athletic in her youth, participating in Track and Baseketball. She was also fond of acting.
Joyce studied and became a Nurse, graduating with honors. Upon meeting her husband Jim, she retired to be a homemaker and hobbyist. She made candles, taught Ceramics, and started her own breeding kennel, Ushuaia Goldens. She was also involved in Civitan, and Canine Companions for Independence. Joyce loved to cook and was a Master Preserver.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Mary Grant, her sister Ina Fredrickson, and her brother Blair Grant. She is survived by her sister Lynda MacKenzie, sons James and Donald Mapes, as well as respective wives Nive and Robin; two granddaughters; Cameron and Tess Mapes; and one grandson Kushal Paul.
A service and remembrance celebration of Joyce's life will be held at Memorial Gardens at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 26. Her final resting place will be at Memorial Gardens, where she will have be placed with her husband.
