Joyce Dove Lupton

Joyce married and had a daughter, Beverly. The US Air Force took the young family to Arizona. Later, they made their way back home and to Colorado Springs where Safeway and King Soopers became a big part of their lives.

She looked forward to the summertime when her Texas family would come to visit. Of course, she wanted to entertain and show them a fun time. She always enjoyed a picnic in Cheyenne Canyon, shopping in Manitou and the western dinner show at the Flying W.

As another chapter in her life began, that of single parent, she found friendships in the groups she became involved in. That is when she met one of her very best friends, Mary Lou. Together, they found a love of dancing and spent many weekends on the dance floor.

Joyce began her career with Safeway about that same time. It was a job she had great pride in. Because she was such a caring, friendly person and such a great communicator, all the older shoppers waited in her checkout line…no matter how long the wait. At Safeway, she made many lifelong friends.

One of Joyce’s favorite past times was crafting! She spent many hours creating wonderful crafts with the Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary as well as many other ladies groups. Joyce even made crafts at home and a visitor never left without one of her handmade treasures. Her favorite tool was the hot glue gun, followed a close second by duct tape. You could fix anything with hot glue and duct tape!

Joyce was a compassionate person and enjoyed helping others. She loved people and would talk to anyone and everyone she came across. She especially was drawn to little children and would comment “You know a grandma when you see one”. Everyone felt the love in her voice.

You could spot Joyce early on a Saturday morning at a garage sale. She had an eagle eye for the sign marking the nearest sale and her car would immediately make the turn as if on autopilot. Of course, this called for having a garage sale of her own. Once it was finished she would make the statement, “I’ll never have another one!” But she always did.

In the more recent years, Joyce joined with a group of ladies from church called the Single Sisters and looked forward to the weekly lunches they shared together.

Joyce never met a stranger because they always became a friend. She cherished her family and friends. Everyone felt Joyce’s bubbly, joyful personality.
