Joseph Franklin Fenton, 88, of Colorado Springs, passed away on March 31, 2013. Joseph grew up in Woodward, Oklahoma and attended high school in Denver, Colorado. He joined the US Navy in June of 1941 and later served in US Army during the Korean War. After his time in the service he settled with his family in Colorado Springs and became a master plumber and started Fenton Plumbing and Heating in 1953, a business that was passed to his son Kim Fenton in 1984.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He loved to travel and explore in his recreational vehicle. Joe enjoyed being a snowbird and would travel to the south every winter. He loved to garden, build and organize and was very adept at woodcarving.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years Sue and second wife of 22 years Margaret; father Josiah Fenton, mother Vynerah (Bill) Peugh, and brother Leon Fenton
He is survived by his son Kim (Cindy) Fenton of Colorado Springs, his daughter Connie (Doug) Jones of Castle Rock; four grandchildren, Danielle (Mike) Schuurman of Colorado Springs, Brandon Fenton of Colorado Springs, Taylor (Cliff Pinsent) Jones of Denver, Todd (Brig Van Osten) Jones of Lake Balboa, California; and three great grandchildren Landon Joseph, Callie Sue, and Madeline Grace Schuurman; and a younger brother Peter Joseph Fenton of California.
Joe was very proud of his time spent in the service of his country and loved to tell stories about his Naval ship the USS Boise and his many travels around the world.
Because of his love of Colorado, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
Services for Joe will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, April 9 at Swan Law Funeral Home,
502 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs.
