John P. Youngdahl

left us on January 25, 2021. We miss him deeply.

John was joyously welcomed into the World on May 28, 1944 by Marguerite B (McGinnis) and John R Youngdahl in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After growing up in Minnesota on a farm with his younger sisters Barbara and Christine and graduating from Appleton High School, John first attended South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City. He later went on to finish his bachelor’s degree at Mankato State University.

John met the love-of-his-life, Sharon and they married in 1967. John went to work for State Farm in 1968 at a regional office in Roseville, Minnesota. After welcoming a daughter and son to his family, in 1973 John moved to Colorado to pursue the opportunity State Farm had offered him to open his own agency. Throughout his career as a State Farm agent, John epitomized State Farm’s popular catchphrase “Like a Good Neighbor”. One of his greatest joys was helping people and he was able to do just that for nearly 53 years with State Farm. Right up until his last day.

John loved Nature and pursued many outdoor activities like camping, fishing, and gardening. John was an avid oil painter, car enthusiast, and skilled chef, as well as a great animal lover.

Our eternal thanks to all who visited, wrote letters and responded to John’s messages during his last days. Please know that you filled his heart with enormous joy when you shared your time, stories, and memories with him. He loved you all.

John is survived by his family, Christine, Kirsten, Sharon, Becky, John, Cody, Becky, Rob, Alec, Ryan, Emilee, and Button and numerous close friends. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Swan Law from 10am-2pm (501 N Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs). Due to the pandemic the family will not be attending the visitation.

An additional celebration of life will be held at the beginning of the summer, COVID-dependent.
