The family of Dr. John “Jack” Clayton Welch Jr., 96, of Black Forest Colorado, announces his passing on Tuesday August 15, 2023. On that evening, he experienced by sight that which he had believed by faith all his life. Jack was born on April 20, 1927 in Oakland, California to Edna and John Clayton Welch. After high school, Jack joined the navy at the tail end of World War II, and served for the entirety of the Korean War. When the war ended, Jack attended the University of California, Berkley, where he majored in genetics and played on the basketball team. After graduation he married the love of his life, Patricia Peters. They moved to Los Angeles so Jack could attend medical school at the University of Southern California. Following medical school the family settled in San Jose California, where Jack opened up a general practice, and they started a family. After a few years in private practice, the family moved to Southern California where Jack took a position as the Medical Director at California State Polytechnic University. Jack loved practicing medicine, but his greatest joys in life, were his family, sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and mentoring other men in God’s word. Jack and Pat started a church in their home in 1970, and held weekly Bible studies where Jack taught the Bible verse by verse. In 1993, Jack and Pat retired to Black Forest, Colorado.
Jack is survived by his wife Pat, daughters Susan (Tim) Kistler, Julie (Joseph) Carlucci, Jill (Chris) Catuara, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl DeWitt. While we deeply grieve, we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We know we will see him again.
A Celebration of Life to be held on Thurs, Sept 7, at 11:30 at Rocky Mountain Calvary, 4285 N. Academy Blvd. CO Spgs. 80918.
