John Carlisle Decker, 77, of Monument, Colorado passed away on Friday March 1, 2019 with family and friends by his side. John was born on Monday June 2, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to the late Kenneth Decker and Rosemary (Decker) Barlet. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Mary Decker (Zerfas).
John was a graduate of Van Nuys High School in California and served four years in the Army with his life long friend John Noble. He successfully owned and operated Decker Machine Company in Chatsworth, California for more than 45 years becoming famed for his work on aerospace parts included parts for Air Force One and the NASA Space Shuttle program. He was also well known for his machine work to support the hot rod, race car and film making industries. He humbly won several awards for his support of High School Robotics education in California and Colorado. He also took great pride in his volunteer work at the Monument Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and at the National Museum of World War II Aviation. He was well known for his energetic and adventurous spirit stating that life troubles were simply “a speed bump in the parking lot of life” and that “if everything is under control, you’re going too slow!”
He is survived by his siblings, Barbara Lindgren, Judy Akers, Nancy Barlet, Billy Barlet and Terry Zerfas and his son Daniel Decker, his wife Denise Decker and their children Ryan, Kyle and Kady, his daughter Dionne Davis (Decker), her husband Bob Davis, and their children Bobby, Caitlyn and Dannielle and her children Elisabette and Emmanuel.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Monument Community Presbyterian Church at 238 3rd Street Monument, Colorado 80132.
