He was a police constable in London, England for the Metropolitan Police Service when he met his future wife Rosetta Sharp. He was decorated with the British Empire Medal for bravery by Queen Elizabeth II. He emigrated to America in 1967, marrying Rosie in Trenton, NJ. They welcomed their daughter, Andrea, in 1971. From there, the family moved to Iowa. In 1976, John and Rosie welcomed Melissa, followed by moving to Indiana and back to New Jersey within the next two years. After his children grew up and started their own families, heand Rosie moved to Cumming, GA to be near Andrea, her husband, and their children. He and Rosie split their time between living in Georgia and spending summers in Colorado Springs, CO, near Melissa, her husband, and their children.
He enjoyed reading, sailing, woodworking, traveling, bird watching, and randomly walking away where no one could find him. He was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church. He loved his dogs, his grandchildren, and his coffee with six sugars.
He is survived by his wife Rosie, his daughters Andrea (Tim) Brandt and Melissa Seidenberg,and his grandchildren, Ashleigh and Meghan Brandt, and Abi and Braeden Seidenberg.
A service for John will be held on Wednesday, May 10th at 10:00 am at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
