Jill Nester

Jill Ann Nester, beloved wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2016 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee, September 27, 1956, the first of three children born to Betty Kitchen and her late former husband, Niles Kitchen. Jill graduated from Largo High School in Largo, Florida in 1974. She attended nursing school at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida before she entered the US Air Force, where she worked in aircraft maintenance. After serving our country, she completed her nursing degree from Pensacola Community College and became a Registered Nurse. She worked as an intensive care nurse at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida before she met her husband and moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia. While in Virginia she worked as a nurse at Maryview Hospital, Norfolk General Hospital, and Portsmouth Naval Hospital. She took great pride in the care she gave to her patients. She also took pride in her daughter, Courtenay, becoming a nurse. Jill also loved the game of baseball—especially if her boys were playing. Before being diagnosed with Lupus, she routinely coached baseball, when most coaches were male. She considered the Orioles, Mets, and Rockies to be her teams. About six years ago, Jill and her husband entered the world of show dogs when a close friend, Jo Stevens, gave them an Ibizan Hound. That hound won Best of Breed at the National Championship in 2012 and 2013. Jill loved her dogs and let everyone know it. Jill leaves behind to cherish her memory, devoted husband, Denny Nester of Colorado Springs; her mother, Betty Kitchen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, loving children, Eric (Montse Caloca) Nester of Arlington, Virginia; Todd Nester of Centennial, Colorado; Courtenay Nester of Canyon, Texas; precious grandchildren, Kaedyn and Brennen Nester of Colorado Springs; a brother, Gary Kitchen of Tampa, Florida; as well as a host of friends. The family celebrated Jill’s life with a cook out at their home on August 6. While the family recognizes that they did not adequately notice the event, they want to thank those who could attend and apologize to those who were not able to attend. Jill’s cremains will be scattered in the sea later this year.
