Jeffry Phillip Dunn (Jeff), age 79 years old, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on the evening of Friday, September 8, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. His four children were by his side until the end.
Jeff was born May 22, 1944, in Rockford, Illinois and after a family move, grew up in the outskirts of Philadelphia. After high school, he enrolled in the Marine Reserves and later attended Washburn University where he met the love of his life, Cinda Lee Crawley (Cindy Dunn). Jeff graduated from Washburn University and later earned an MBA from Regis University.
Jeff and Cindy were married on September 17, 1966, in Elkhart Kansas, and then moved to Brooklyn where Jeff worked on Wallstreet. After realizing the finance world was not his passion, Jeff and Cindy moved to Denver where Jeff began his career in real estate. The family then moved to Evergreen for a few years before settling in Colorado Springs in the early 80’s.
Jeff’s real estate career varied over the years ranging from investing, management and developing cutting-edge concepts with a focus on enriching the lives of others. Regardless of work or his personal life, he always wanted to blaze a unique trail-no idea was ever too outside the box for him, and he thrived on a good negotiation.
While his business ventures were a success, he always believed that his greatest legacy was his children and grandchildren who he believed could do no wrong. Jeff could often be found on the sidelines of his kids and grandkids sporting events, volunteering in schools and on local boards, playing golf, cheering on the Broncos and Jayhawks, traveling, “jiving” to Motown music, eating ice cream (even as a main course), finding any reason to be outside, sharing jelly beans in his office, and spending time at the family cabin in Cuchara.
Although, in the final years, there were challenges with his health, he never lost his sense of humor. His quick wit could always lighten the mood. For anyone that spent time with him they walked away with a good story, whether from unusual mishaps, creative concepts, unique “Jeff-isms” or an inappropriate joke, he never took himself too seriously.
Jeff is survived by his sisters Eugenie Hindall and Victoria Norton, brother Chris Dunn (Deborah and Amanda), his children Cassie D. Gannett (Toby, Brady, Cory, Rylie), Ryan C. Dunn (Dawn, Lucas, Gabriel), Carrie D. Clarke (Brendan, Mikayla, Ashlyn) and Katie D. Stewart (Scott).
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Cindy Dunn, his parents Phillip and Virginia Dunn, his brother-in laws: Geo Hindall and Jim Curtis, niece Emily Dunn and nephew Troy Curtis.
Jeff’s family is appreciative of all the love and support shown to him and his family over the years. In particular, the staff and caregivers at Palisades at Broadmoor Park, for showing him so much love and kindness during his final years. We are comforted to know that he is back with his wife and partner, eating ice cream, playing golf and standing back on strong legs in a better place.
Celebration of Life for Jeff will be held on Sunday, September 24th at 2:00PM with a reception to follow at the Otto Fellowship Hall (downstairs) of Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
