Jean was born to John William Mattingly and Mary Alethia Nevitt on February 26, 1931, in New Hope, Kentucky. Her siblings included two brothers (LeRoy and Sonny (Bishop)) who have passed away. She had many nieces and nephews.
Jean married James (Jim) O’Bryan on May 5, 1951. They enjoyed 67 years of married life and together they had four children: Jim O’Bryan, Jr., spouse Debbie, Lois Lipps, spouse Mike, David O’Bryan (deceased) and Greg O’Bryan, spouse Sonia. She has now joined the communion of saints that have gone on before her, including her son David and husband. She is survived by her three children, Jim, Lois and Greg, four grandchildren, Austin O’Bryan, spouse Sarah, Molly O’Bryan, Grady O’Bryan, Gavin O’Bryan and two great-grandchildren Elliot and Elsie O’Bryan.
Jean was an Air Force wife for over 26 years which involved numerous moves to many states and several foreign countries. Because of this, she worked numerous part time jobs during her life; however, she preferred to stay at home and care for her children. After the children were all in school, she was able to work for Douglas Valley Elementary School at the U.S. Air Force Academy as a librarian and Executive Secretary and had a successful twenty-year career from which she retired in June of 1993. Her many interests included traveling, antiquing, reading, and socializing with her many friends and relatives. But, most importantly, her family was her pride and her joy!
Our mother was dearly loved and will be missed by all. We had many wonderful years of her love and unwavering devotion.
