Janelle Tobsing Erbschloe was born April 18, 1929 in Mason City, Iowa. She spent her childhood in Mason City, the home of "The Music Man". Her family moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky during the war, where she graduated salutatorian of her high school in 1947 at Fort Knox High school. She met Richard Ross Erbschloe, the love of her life when she was attending Iowa State College and he was attending the University of Missouri. They were married on July 10, 1948. After Ross earned his masters degree in Statistics, he reentered active duty and went to Korea. Over the next 30 years she supported Ross in his Air Force career at Scott AFB, Illinois; Maxwell AFB, Alabama; Harlingen, Texas; the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs; Wiesbaden, Germany; back to Colorado Springs, and Langley AFB, Virginia. While in Colorado Springs she pursued a part time career in modeling. After Ross retired from the Air Force. they moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they both earned degrees—Ross a PhD in Higher Electronics from Arizona State while Janelle attended Scottsdale Community College obtaining an Associate Arts degree in Nutrition. She always considered Colorado to be their home and returned in 1994 after Ross retired for the second time. Their final home together was at the Liberty Heights Retirement Facility. She was a founding member of St Michael's Episcopal Church serving on the altar guild and working at the church thrift store. She was a talented homemaker and chef. She loved animals, but most important she loved to get people together. She is survived by her daughters Sue Lantello and Diann Brei and her son, Don Erbschloe, six grandchildren Spenser, Amy, Zachary, Melissa, Alison, and Jeremy, and a great-grandaughter, Sharron.
Her funeral will be held at St Michael's at 1:00 PM on Thursday, 14 August, followed by an inurnment in the church's Columbarium. A Celebration of Life ceremony will take place starting at 3:30 PM at Liberty Heights on 14 August. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Colorado Springs Humane Society.
