In 1943 he graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Agriculture and then promptly joined the Army. Before being stationed at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs he proudly trained and served as a member of the 10th Mountain Division. After fighting bravely in WWII and being awarded the bronze star, James Walker was promoted to the rank of Captain and decided that upon leaving the military he would make Colorado Springs his permanent home.
After securing his real estate license in 1949 he formed Walker and Company realtors in 1953 where he would eventually grow his company to be the largest independent real estate firm in Southern Colorado. He helped establish the Multiple Listing Service in Colorado Springs, was president of the Pikes Peak Association of Realtors and was honored with being Realtor of the year.
In his free time James loved to fly and as a world class glider pilot currently holds the record for the 3rd longest flight in the world while flying a Schweizer 126.
James was a charter member of countless organizations and associations and constantly gave back to this community. He was a fantastic man who enjoyed dancing, bowling and helping others. James R. Walker helped make Colorado Springs a better place and is loved and missed by many.
He is survived by his two sons Jon and Jeff Walker, grandsons Jariah and Andy Walker and great grandchildren McKenzie and Alexis Walker.
A Celebration of Life Service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 19, 2015, The Pinery at the Hill - Sweetwater Chapel, 775 W. Bijou St., Colorado Springs, Colorado.
