Our dear husband and father, James A. Vaughan, went home to be with the Lord on October 24th, 2024, at the age of 87 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jim was born on October 6, 1937 to Jack and Julia Vaughan in Alhambra, California and was the oldest of their 2 boys. He lived in Southern California until 1996 and went to Arcadia High School in Arcadia, California. Jim was in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1958. He married the love of his life Carol Ann Vaughan in 1959 and they had two daughters, Lori and Sheri. He was an amazing husband and father who loved well and always put his family first. He supported all of the cheerleading events and any activities the girls were a part of. He was also very active in his church, serving as an elder for many years and as a board member of Maranatha, the Christian High School the girls went to. Jim and Carol moved to Colorado in 1996 to be close to their girl's families. He finished his long career in sales and became an associate pastor of Tri Lakes Chapel in Colorado for 17 years, working until he was 76. He was an amazing listener and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His godly advice was often sought after by those wanting to follow the Lord. We saw him act as the "Barnabas" to many pastors over the years, supporting and encouraging them. He was a wonderful grandpa also, continuing to love and support each of his 6 grandchildren and their spouses. His grandchildren knew he loved them so much as he told them often and showed in all that he did. He officiated several of their weddings. He had funny names for them and could always bring a laugh. Then of course the 12 (almost 13) great grandchildren, another layer of love and joy that he received and gave in each of these relationships.
Jim is survived by his wife Carol and children, Lori (Steve) Reed and Sheri (Greg) Hudson. He has 6 amazing grandchildren Andrew (Sarah) Reed, Dana (Tanner) Ward, Ashton (Alex) Byrd, Taylor (Nikki) Hudson, Jacob (Karie) Reed and Shelby (Justin) Torres and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Julia Vaughan and his brother Timothy "Jack" Vaughan.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 5:30pm (MST) at Cross Fellowship Church located at 10915 Black Forest Road, Colorado Springs, CO. 80908. The service will be live streamed. This information will be updated closer to the date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Compassion International, Colorado Springs, CO. Jim loved the work of Compassion and had the opportunity to visit Ecuador with them.
