James Keith “Stew” Stewart, who was born September 26, 1930 in Pueblo, CO. to James and Mable Stewart, he passed away March 29, 2017 in Colorado Springs.
He graduated from Central High School and attended Pueblo Jr College. He joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and sailed on the USS Caliente, delivering oil to all the ships at sea. After serving his country, he worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 1991.
James married Betty McCreery in March of 1952 and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They had four children: James Jr (Christy), Richard, Robert and Jaylene (Danny) Harris. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One of his greatest joys in life was his grandkids and later their children. He is also survived by his sister, RaeAnna Mahoney.
James is preceded in passing by son Richard, two brothers, Larry and Eugene.
Jim loved to go camping and fishing. He loved big band music and enjoyed going dancing with his wife. He was also an avid bowler, bowling every week and even traveled the country competing in bowling tournaments. Many of his closest friends were from his bowling community.
James was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Colorado Springs. He was a wonderful man who lived every day to the fullest. He was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 10-11 a.m., with Funeral Services following at First Baptist Church 317 E. Kiowa St., Colorado Springs, CO. 80903, with a private burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
