James was born November 4, 1931 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Andrew and Jacoba Meacham. His father was a farmer and taught him the value of hard work. From this upbringing, James decided to join the United States Air Force to serve his country. He joined in January of 1951 and would later retire from his service in March of 1977.
He served in many places such as Korea and Vietnam. During his career he obtained various awards and decorations, a few of them being the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and an Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.
He lived in many states throughout his life, California, Idaho, Indiana, Florida, he spend three tours in Europe (Germany, France). Along his travels he met a special woman Naomi O’Steen in Tampa, FL. The two were united in marriage on November 23, 1952. The couple welcomed their first child (son William) in 1953 and would welcome their second child (daughter Sandra) in 1956.
James and Naomi, after 31 years together, settled in Colorado Springs, CO in 1983. They spent 38 years in the beautiful city and enjoyed various activities and sites together within those years.
James is survived by his wife of 69 years, Naomi Meacham, his sister Sharon Parker of Fort Wayne, Indiana, his son and daughter, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service in honor of James is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2021, 11:00 am, at the W Pikes Peak Church of Christ in Colorado Springs.
