James (Jim) Corcoran Devoy passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2023 in Colorado Springs. He was born on January 18, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN to James and Gertrude Devoy. The only son growing up with 7 sisters, Jim managed to delight and terrify his family with a steady dose of death defiance and shenanigans.
On November 3, 1956 he married Sharon Lang. They went on to welcome 6 sons and built a life together, moving for Jim’s job from Minnesota to Texas, and back to Minnesota before settling in Colorado Springs and later Divide, CO. Jim was an early adopter of technology and chose that field as his profession; he loved his work and the experiences and opportunities for travel that it provided him. He enjoyed traveling – from weekend camping trips to long overseas adventures, as well as photography, spending time with his loved ones, and a good debate with any willing participant.
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Sharon, as well as 3 sons: James Devoy, Patrick (Teresa) Devoy, and Stephen Devoy; grandchildren Tracy (Larry) Reedy, Kelly (Adam) Poling, James Devoy, Timothy (Cambria) Devoy, Ashley (Jamie) Everhart, Jordan (Kelsey) Devoy, James Robert Devoy, Carissa (Jacob) Rainey, Sean Devoy, and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Sharon Mills and Nikki (Roger) LaSota in addition to numerous extended members of the family. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, and 3 of his sons: Michael, Timothy, and Christopher Devoy.
Standing at 6’4”, Jim had a gentlemanly demeanor that commanded a room. He was known for his boisterous laugh, hard work, and honesty. Those close to him were witness to his quiet humanity and insight into the larger world. and for never letting a chance to be ornery to pass by. Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 14th at Our Lady of The Woods Catholic Church, 220 S West St, Woodland Park, CO 80863, followed by a reception in Divide, CO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church.
