Jim’s 23 years of service in the US Army as a maintenance technician included one tour in Okinawa and two in Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1982 as a Chief Warrant Officer after which he continued to serve his country as a civil service employee at Ft. Carson for 20 years.
Jim met his wife, Inge Adams, while stationed in Germany. He is survived by her, his brother Don Adams and his daughters: Renee Adams - husband Justin Gibbens, Brenda Tjaden - husband Dr. Jeff Tjaden and son Aricin Tjaden, and LtCol (ret) Diana Starkey - husband Rod Starkey.
Jim enjoyed many hobbies including camping, hunting, stamp collecting, building model trains, and traveling. His travels took him all over the world and recently included a river cruise in Germany with his whole family to celebrate his and Inge’s 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Jim will be remembered for his dependability, creativity, organization, attention to detail, and sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name for cancer or Parkinson’s disease research. Memorial Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at Soldier’s Memorial Chapel, Ft. Carson. Reception to follow at Edelweiss Restaurant.
