Ivan Lee Yowell

Ivan Lee Yowell was born on April 26th, 1931 in Rexford, Kansas to his parents Edward Sylvester Yowell and Inez Irene (Johann) Yowell. He graduated from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs in 1949, and he married his first wife, Geraldine Louise Trojanovich on June 22, 1952 at the First Methodist Church in Colorado Springs. He was married to Geraldine until her death in 2000. In 2006 Ivan married Sandra Kay Rhoades at St. Michael’s Methodist Church in Colorado Springs.

Ivan utilized his skills as a handyman in his first career as a journeyman carpenter. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the Construction Battalion (Seabees). He served two years in the active reserves, two years in active duty, and two years in standby reserves. Following his service in the Navy, Ivan worked in construction. He then joined the U.S. Postal service in 1956. He worked initially in mail processing and was eventually promoted to an Assistant Manager position in customer service. Ivan also served as President of the National Association of Postal Supervisors (Local 141).

In addition to being a very hard worker, Ivan enjoyed spending time with his family, participating in church activities, traveling, exercising, and volunteering as a driver for Silver Key. Ivan’s friends and family will remember him as a very kind and honest man as well as a wonderful, devoted father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sylvester Yowell and Inez Irene (Johann) Yowell; his first wife, Geraldine Louise Trojanovich; and his brother, Dean Edward Yowell. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Rhoades; sons, David Lee Yowell and James Dean Yowell; daughter, Connie Lou Yowell; sister‐in‐law, Mary Frances Yowell; grandson, David Lee Yowell Jr.; Nephews Col. Ret. Michael Lee Yowell, Neal Edward Yowell; Niece Donna Louise (Yowell) Banks; stepdaughter, Kristina Marie Rathman; and stepson, Michael Thomas Rhoades.

Visitation will be held at Swan‐Law Funeral Directors at 501 Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs from 2:00 ‐ 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, with a Rosary service at 3:30 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs.

The Graveside Service will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs.
