Helen Marie (Lambert) Wilson was born in Rock Springs, WY on November 1, 1928, the third child of John A. and Barbara M. Lambert. A long-time resident of Colorado Springs, she passed away on January 26, 2021.
From the outset of her life, she was a loving, caring, positive person and touched by the traditions of the Old West where girls wore simple, gingham dresses, a handshake sealed a promise forever, a man tipped his hat in respect for women, and everybody worked to put food on the table.
Because as a plasterer her father had to move to where the work was, her family left Wyoming when she finished the first grade on the Shoshone Indian Reservation there and moved to Raton, New Mexico. There her family lived in some active coal mining camps, and she spent time with many in her extended family. Finally her family moved back to Rock Springs and she finished high school there.
Unfortunately, in her youth she had to endure some corrective surgery on one of her hips, and though it was successful for that time period, she had some physical limitations that persisted throughout her life.
After high school, she moved to Denver, Colorado to attend business school where she became an accredited secretary and accountant.
On May 1, 1960, as a widow with a six-year-old son, Gary, she married Charles L. Wilson in Colorado, and as he was a captain in the Army, they traveled rather extensively until he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. They lived in Indiana, Alaska, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Kansas, and Texas. As an Army wife, she was outstanding.
When her husband retired in 1970, they moved to Colorado Springs and resided there for the rest of her life. In 1983, she joined P.E.O. and has been an active member ever since.
Helen’s brothers, John and Donald Lambert, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Charles Wilson, son Gary Hall (Sue), her daughter Tami Bock (Bruce), two grandchildren Krista Robinson (Nathan) and Jonathan Bock (Katherina), and three great-grandsons, Aidan, Finn, and Ryan. All of them were precious to her.
All of her life, Helen respected with undaunted sincerity the principles of the Christian faith, and her praises of Christ were enduring. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on February 4th at 1:00 p.m. for close friends and family. The service will also be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube. Donations may be made in Helen's honor to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4125 Constitution Ave., Colorado Springs, CO, 80909.
