Helen Marie Bland, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully on January 18, 2018, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born September 19, 1928 one of twelve children born to William and Edith Locke.
Helen worked several years in retail until she opened and ran a home daycare. Through her daycare she influenced the lives of many young children and became affectionately known as “Grandma” Helen to hundreds of children and their parents.
Family, friends, and her church were very important to her. Helen enjoyed hosting gatherings of family and friends in her home. She was known as a person that loved to hug and give an encouraging word to those she came in contact with. She loved to collect dolls of all kinds and has an impressive collection of about two hundred dolls. She loved sewing and many different kinds of crafts, she especially liked to share the things she made with others.
She leaves behind her three children Dorothy (Roger) Hahn of Spring Hill, Kansas; Bill (Sharon) Bland of Mission, Texas; Diane (Ken) Bell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great – great grandchild; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be held on January 25, 2018 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery at two o’clock in the afternoon. A memorial service will be on February 17, 2018 at ten - thirty in the morning at Springs First Church of the Nazarene 4120 E. Fountain Blvd. Colorado Springs, Colorado.
