She was born September 2, 1925 to Edwin and Florence Greier in Freeport, Illinois. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1951 where she raised her son and daughter as a single parent until she met the love of her life John T. Holmes. John introduced her to the world of Shriners and she became involved in Daughters of the Nile (where she was a past queen) and other shrine organizations. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and also enjoyed her daily lunches at the Senior Community center near her home.
A strong and fiercely independent woman with a quiet peace about her, she was preceded in death by her husband John T. Holmes. She is survived by her son Jerry (Marie) Justice and daughter Janice (Alan) Zirzow, grandchildren Jeremy (Tanya) Justice, Derek (Melissa) Justice, Aaron (Acacia) Zirzow, and Adam Zirzow, and five great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Swan-Law Funeral Directors. A memorial service will be held December 10, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., Memorial Gardens Chapel, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Memorials can be sent to the Daughters of the Nile foundation which benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children.
