Grace Alma (Bodenstein) Heath of Colorado Springs went home to be with her Lord, Saturday May 3, 2014, after a long illness. Grace was born on January 14, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Edward and Ruth Bodenstein. She grew up in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky and moved to Colorado Springs in 1943.
Grace’s lifelong profession and passion was nursing. Grace graduated from the Beth-El School of Nursing at Memorial Hospital in 1946 and later continued her studies at the University of Michigan earning a B.S. in Public Health Nursing in 1956. Early in her career, Grace worked for Memorial Hospital then as a public health nurse for El Paso and Routt counties. Grace married Jack W. Heath in 1958 while working in Routt County. After the family moved to Colorado Springs, she worked at the Colorado Springs Medical Center then finished her career as an industrial nurse at Western Forge Corporation, retiring in 1988. Grace served as the president of the Southern Colorado Association of Occupational Health Nurses from 1985-1986.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Ruth Bodenstein; her brother, Paul E. Bodenstein and a nephew, David Bodenstein. She is survived by Jack Heath, her husband of fifty-six years; a son, Bruce Heath; two daughters, Mary (Stanley) Pond and Shirley (John) Brickner; eleven grandchildren, a niece, a nephew, two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and several cousins. Grace touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of Grace’s life will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Home on Saturday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or to a charity of your choice are preferred.
