Grace was born on May 3, 1923 in Anita, Iowa to Robert and Edna (Boswell) Dinkey. She passed away peacefully at Laurel Manor on December 14, 2014.
Grace was the oldest of three girls, who grew up on a farm near Anita, Iowa. She worked as a waitress in Atlantic, Iowa, and then living in Iowa City, Iowa for a few years. In 1956 she moved to Denver, Colorado. Grace married Marion Dunaway on March 30, 1956 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During their time in Denver they owned and operated the Honey Glaze Donut Shop. When they moved to Colorado Springs, Grace worked at the Ponderosa and the Ramada Inn.
Grace loved to travel, especially Hawaii and going on cruises. She also loved playing the slot machines at Cripple Creek, where she was very lucky.
After Grace’s eyesight failed, and developing Alzheimer’s, she moved to Emeritus in 2012. When suffering a broken hip in October 2014 she became a resident of Laurel Manor.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marion, in 1993, two brothers-in-law, Ross Nash and Ross Bornholdt, niece, Laurie Bornholdt, and nephews, Ryan Nash and Dustin Walker. She is survived by, her son and daughter-in-law Robert and Darlene Dunaway of Colorado Springs, CO, grandson, Christopher Dunaway (Chelsey) of Pittsburg, PA, one great-granddaughter, sisters, Maxine Nash and Norma Jean Bornholdt of Walnut, Iowa.
Services will take place on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Memorial Gardens Chapel, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado with a viewing beginning at 10:00am and services beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow the service.
