Gloria Charlton, 67, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away at her home on 17 July 2010, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born March 18, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to Angelo and Mary Lira. She was a graduate of St Mary’s High School and Blair Business College.
Gloria married Jim Charlton on September 5, 1964, in Colorado Springs, and they traveled throughout the United States with the Air Force for twenty-four years, living in California, Louisiana, Nebraska, Ohio, and New Mexico, before finally returning to and settling in Colorado in 1999.
She was an amazingly wise, courageous and loving wife, mom, grandma, and friend to all. Her beautiful smile and personality made everyone who knew her feel special. Gloria loved shopping, reading, scrapbooking, putting together puzzles, hosting parties, and spending time with her family and friends. Her cheerful outlook on life was infectious. She was one of a kind and will be missed more than words can express.
Gloria is survived by her devoted husband, Jim, of 45 years; son Mark and wife April of Colorado Springs; son Patrick and wife Dena of Albuquerque; daughter Amy and husband Simon of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Haley, Patrick, Hannah and Benjamin; and her sister Jeanne of Denver, Colorado.
A visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, July 19, 2010, at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. A funeral mass is planned for 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 55 N. Jefferson St., Monument, CO, with an internment at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 South Hancock Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO. A reception at the Charlton residence will immediately follow the internment.
