Gladyth Maree Hochstetter was born on April 6, 1929, in Webster, SD to Fleda and Raymond Fegert. She lived for a short time on a farm North of Bradley, SD before moving to Lily, SD where she attended and graduated from Lily High School. She then attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. While attending NSU, she began teaching in rural schools in Butler SD and Kidder SD.
In 1952 Gladyth was united in marriage to Raymond Hochstetter. They made their home in Sioux Falls, SD. Gladyth continued her education graduating from the University of Sioux Falls. She taught in the Sioux Falls school system for 16 years, teaching at South Sioux and Horace Mann elementary schools. While raising her family she continued with substitute teaching. Later, she was employed with the Internal Revenue Service and retired from the US Postal Service.
Raymond and Gladyth enjoyed traveling and she was thrilled to have been to all 50 states except for Hawaii. Gladyth also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her rose gardens. She was a life member of SDEA and a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she was active in Sunday school, women’s group, bible study groups, and volunteering.
In 2013 Gladyth moved to Colorado Springs to be near her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed an active life in her new senior living community making new friends and playing lots of cards.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children Steve Hochstetter (Sherri) and Mary Ruebenson (Mike), both of Colorado Springs. Six grandchildren, Garrett (Jacy), Devon (Brooke) and Shanna (Jase) Hochstetter and Jennifer (Gannon), Ryan (Jill), and Lauren (Drew) Ruebenson and 3 great grandchildren; brother Wallace Fegert and sister, Miriam Beauvais.
Preceding her in death were her husband Raymond, her parents and a son who died at birth.
Funeral services will be held on June 26, 2023 beginning at 10:00, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd St., Souix Falls, SD. Graveside burial will follow the service.
