Gerald was born on August 7, 1953 in Cincinnati, OH to James and Bobby Wright. He grew up in the Dayton, OH area until he joined the Air Force. He graduated from Chaminade Catholic High School, Dayton, OH in 1970. He married his high school sweetheart and later had 3 beautiful children. They later divorced in 1988. He spent over 4 years in the Air Force where he was a Training Instructor for the last 2 years of his career. He was very proud of his military career.
Gerald was on the Texas A&M Educational Opportunity Planning and then promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Educational Opportunity Planning. He worked for the State of Texas in that capacity for the Governor of Texas. He started his own record store in Austin, TX called Austin On The Air. Gerald had a great love of music and was a Concert Promoter.
He later moved to Kalamazoo, MI and was the EEO Corporate Administrator for First of America Bank. He relocated to Colorado Springs, CO in 1997. He fell in love with the mountains and never wanted to leave. He spent 12 years, until his health forced him to retire, at Red Noland Auto Group. He had many friends and clients at Red Noland. He cared about all of them because customer service was very important to him
Gerald leaves behind his loving wife, Jennifer. His children Angela Wright (Jorge), and Adam Wright (Kate) in Portland, OR, brother Wayne Wright, sister Jamese Wright in Dayton, OH. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Alicia, Jordan, Trevor, Amelia, Olivia, Amethyst, Lewis, and Natalie. He was very proud of his grandchildren. 3 step children, April (Rich), Melanie, and Brad. He had 3 step grandchildren, Katie (Nate), Kennedy (Michael), Adian (Colby) as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father, James, Mother, Bobby, and youngest daughter, Adrienne.
A celebration of life will be held at Swan Law Funeral Directors on April 21, 2023 at 12:30 PM. Swan Law is located at 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. He will be laid to rest at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery where he will be able to enjoy the mountain he loved so much forever.
