Rev. Gene Allen Anderson, affectionately known as “Rocky”, passed away peacefully on August 19 2024, In Colorado Springs, CO at the age of 87. Born on February 26, 1937 in Milaca Minnesota, Rocky was a man of many talents and deep faith, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him.
As a young man, Rocky was a star athlete, excelling in all sports- a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. His dedication to service was equally evident, as he proudly served his country as an Army Veteran. Following his military service, he worked for Minnesota Contractors, which brought him to Colorado Springs in 1959. He built many of the bridges, Colleges, and schools that are still in use today, back in the 1960’s.
Gene also known by many as “Pastor”, served the Lord for over 35 years as a minister, in the Church of the Nazarene. He and his wife May pastored churches in Pine Bluff Arkansas, Blytheville Arkansas, Grand Island Nebraska, Security Colorado and Amarillo Texas. His love for his church congregations and friendships he made lasted his lifetime.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, May Ola; his parents, Emil and Wilma Anderson; his sisters, Maxine (Jerry) Long; and Marilyn (Bob) Weaver; his infant brother Michael Anderson; and his grandson, Brett Allen Kiger.
He is survived by his daughter, Tamara May (Gary) Kiger; his son, Mark Allen (Katherine) Anderson. Rocky was a proud grandfather to Morgan Elizabeth (Ben) Stratman; Mark Allen Anderson 2nd; Michael Davis Anderson; and Julia Chloe Anderson, and a cherished great-grandfather to Elizabeth May Stratman and Joshua Brett Stratman. His legacy of love and faith extends to a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Gene’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and his dedication to serving others. He will be remembered as the best father a son and daughter could ever ask for, and who is owed more than can ever be repaid. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
