Gayle May Roever Jordan died peacefully on July 19, 2022, at her home in Woodland Park, CO. With her at the time of death was her husband Jerry, son Tapley, and daughter Suzanne. She dealt with cancer for almost seven years, hopeful the chemo treatments would restore her health. Throughout it all she remained positive, and blessed her family and friends with love. Our thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and friends who made her remaining time meaningful.
Gayle was born November 23, 1938 in St. Louis to Monroe and Margaret Roever. Her early schooling was in Bellefontaine Neighbors, a suburb of St. Louis, and she attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. Specializing in elementary education, she taught kindergarten in the St. Louis area, in Germany at a U.S. Air Force base, as well as in Colorado Springs and La Crosse, WI. Gayle believed in every single child that walked into her classroom, helping them reach their full potential, and keeping in touch with many after they moved on.
In 1966, she married the Rev. Jerry Marshall Jordan, and they were together for 56 years. She was a person of deep faith who initially wondered if she could be a good minister's wife. He assured her all she needed to do was just be herself. Her gracious and friendly spirit was loved by all. She sang in the choir, taught kindergarten Sunday school, and improved her husband's sermons by making them shorter. Gayle was a member of PEO. She loved quilting, cross-stitching, sewing, cooking, reading, playing Mah-Jongg, watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, raising two wonderful children, traveling (Europe, Africa, Middle East, USA), listening to Broadway and classical music, and caring for her family. Gayle loved life!
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Gloria and Georgia. The family that lives on with her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Tapley and Mia Jordanwood, daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Brad Bayer, four grandchildren, Samuel and Oceana Jordanwood, Carter and Jordan Bayer, and her larger extended family, whom she dearly loved.
The service for Gayle will be on Wednesday, July 27, 9:30 a.m., at First Congregational Church, 20 East St. Vrain, Colorado Springs. A reception will follow, with a 12:30 p.m. burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
Gayle always wanted to help those in need. In lieu of flowers direct memorial donations to the Community Cupboard Food Pantry in Woodland Park, 414 N. Hwy 67 Woodland Park, CO 80863
