Garrett was born in Melrose, MA, Nov. 16, 1971. He was a long time resident of Colorado Springs, CO.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Rachel, and his two precious children, Elijah (age 11), and Faith (age 6).
Garrett and Rachel were married Jan. 16, 1999. He also leaves behind his devoted parents, David and Sheila Swasey, originally of Melrose, MA, sister Kimberly Noveletsky and her husband Steven, niece Tasha Noveletsky and nephew Stephen Swasey, of Deerfield Beach, FL. Garrett also leaves a number of cousins, aunts, and uncles to keep his memory.
Garrett began ice skating at 7 years old with the Stoneham Skating Club. He moved to Colorado Springs to train at the Broadmoor Skating Club, while living at the Olympic Training Center. Garrett was a junior national ice dance champion in 1992.
Garrett became a pastor at Hope Chapel of Colorado Springs in 2006, and a police officer at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) in 2009, while continuing his role as pastor. Garrett was passionate for his family, his career, and for his Savior.
Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at New Life Church, north campus. There will be a public viewing Thurs., Dec. 3 from 4-7 p.m. at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs. A private burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, for family, friends, and fellow police officers.
