Ernie was born December 13, 1945 to Ernest and Verlon Smith. He was their only child, and he grew up in the Farmington/Cortez area.
Due to the Vietnam War, Ernie enlisted in the National Guard and served for six years. He was released by the Army in 1971. Afterward, he decided that he would like to pursue audio/visual repair along with cinematography, so he attended the Broadcast Academy in Colorado Springs. He then received his Broadcaster License, which was good for his whole life.
Right after he graduated from the Academy, he met Vicki McMullen. They met at the beginning of November 1974 and married on February 14, 1975, Valentine’s Day. They were just six months short of being married for 50 years. They had no children.
Ernie had his own filming business from the 1980s to the 1990s. He and his wife moved to Thousand Oaks, California where they both worked for the Voice of Prophecy for several years, which was the best job either of them had.
Ernie is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, numerous cousin, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00PM on August 3, 2024 at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1305 N Union Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.
