Ernest Larkin “Bo” Burton was born July 20, 1929, in Argyle, Texas to John Wesley and Violet Boyd Burton. He Passed away May 1, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado at 94 years of age. Bo was preceded in death by his parents, siblings - Evelyn Hines Sibert, John Wesley Burton, Jr., and Michael Lynn Burton. Bo is survived by his wife, Nell Ponder Burton, daughter, Reta Adams (Joseph), sister, Alvianita “Pug” Burton (Dennis), granddaughter Sarah Adams Clark (Corey), great grandchildren Rose Adams, Nate Trupp, Asher Clark, Jude Clark, Kennedy Clark, and Gabriel Clark. His incredible work ethic started at a very young age working on the farm before and after school and eventually surviving the Dust Bowl and moving to California to work at the age of 15. He met the love of his life, Nell, in the fall of 1948 and they married in May of 1949. The first 20 years of his career were spent as a roughneck and driller in the oilfields of Oklahoma, West Texas, Kansas, and Alabama. He owned a gas station in Midland, Texas for six years while his daughter attended junior and senior high school. He was a pipefitter with the Plumbers and Pipefitters local 412 out of Albuquerque, NM for 63 years. He retired in 1995 after having two heart attacks. Bo was a Freemason for 44 years, raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in 1980 and was actively involved with Animas Lodge #15 in Farmington, New Mexico. His favorite activities were water skiing, traveling in the motorhome and entertaining. His love of family was overwhelming. He helped raise and was a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews. Bo was always willing to sacrifice his personal needs for family. We considered him “larger than life.” He also loved reading, playing dominoes, Mexican Train, and all-night marathons of Liverpool Rummy. As an avid storyteller, he always had a captive audience for the life experiences he loved to share. Bo and his wife always gave Christmas Eve parties for friends, family and work families that could not be with their own for the holiday. Bo received Christ as his savior in November of 1999 and we are assured that he is at home in heaven.
