Elsie I Baker, 97, of Colorado Springs passed away on April 15, 2024. On June 15, 1926, Elsie was born at her maternal grandparent’s home in Kendrick, CO to Henry and Charlotte Lindt. She grew up in the Kendrick and Edison communities attending school in Edison.
On February 15, 1948, she married the love of her life, Byron E. Baker. The first few years they were married they farmed in the area. Rain and hail prompted them to move to Colorado Springs in 1952.
Elsie’s first job was cooking at Edison Schools. After moving to Colorado Springs, she went to work for Timken Roller Bearing Company, and she worked there for 10 years. In August 1963 she started working at Hewlett Packard (HP). She worked there for 23 years and retired in 1986. After her retirement she filled time by doing Promotional Sales, in home health care, and traveling. She joined the HP Volunteer program and refurbished Science Kits for School District 11. Elsie was always very proud of the work that she did throughout her lifetime.
Elsie is survived by two sons, Wayne and Robert Baker, a daughter, Janita (John) Albright. Seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren. One brother and four sisters. She also has numerous nieces and nephews. Her family always came first, and she adored all of them.
Elsie was preceded in death by Byron E Baker, twin baby boys, her parents, Henry and Charlotte, two brothers and one sister.
Elsie’s hobbies included gardening and crocheting. She crocheted over 100 lap robes for hospice patients and donated them to Pikes Peak Hospice.
A visitation for Elsie will be held Monday, April 22, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. A committal service will occur Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
