Elizabeth "Betty" Helen Clark, 100, peacefully went to heaven on Monday, July 24, 2023. She spent the last 49 years in Colorado, residing in Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, and Fountain. Betty was born in Camden, New Jersey on November 29, 1922, to David and Ruth Spieker, who both preceded her in death, along with her siblings, Margaret, Samuel, Harry, and Lillian. Betty married Ralph Clark on July 4, 1946 after a 2 week whirlwind courtship when they were stationed with the Army at the Presidio in San Francisco, CA. They were married for nearly 62 years before he passed away in 2008. They enjoyed a lifetime of laughter, grand adventures, mountains, oceans, bowling, camping, boating, flying, motorcycling, fishing, traveling in their RV, and spending time with family and friends.
Betty’s career was vast. Early in her career she worked at the Pentagon in the Military Intelligence Department. She received her Medic certification with the Women’s Army Corp during World War 2, working in Ohio, Washington, and San Franscisco. She worked for Campbell’s Soup, as a bookkeeper and typist for several medical offices, and retired as a bookkeeper from Garden of the Gods Care Center
Betty will be fondly remembered for her love of animals, the hundreds of delicious Christmas cookies she made each year to give to both family and strangers alike, and her vivid story telling about her life experiences. Betty was also known for being generous. She would always make meals for anyone who’d take them, send visitors away with baked goods, and would consistently buy small gifts for friends and family, simply because they reminded her of them. She would give you the shirt off her back if you showed admiration for it. Betty also had a quick wit and a laugh that was contagious. She was adventurous, fearless, and resilient. She enjoyed the outdoors, taking care of her yard, feeding every squirrel and bird in town. She would always take the time for listening and conversation, and she loved having visitors. She anticipated and was present for every pivotal event in her family’s lives. Her dedication to her family was truly beautiful, and she will be sorely missed by each of them.
Betty is survived by her two children - Dave (Debbie) Clark of Texas, and Cyndy Scriven of Colorado Springs. She was Grandmom to 7 grandchildren - Dawn (Nathan) Enger, Roy (Libby) Holshue, Sandi(Tim) Lehmpuhl, Stephanie (Victor) Alber, all from Colorado Springs, Dave (Jen) Clark and Donna Clark from New Jersey. She was preceded in death by one Grandchild, Amy DeVaux. She was Great-Grandmom to 15 great grandchildren- Joshua (Alyssa) Enger, Brittany (Hudson) Baker, Cole Holshue, Rachel (Connor) Hodges, Julia (Josh) Peterson, Hunter Holshue, Ashley Lehmpuhl, Cody Lehmpuhl, Justice Holshue, Sophie and Chase Alber, all of Colorado Springs, Brianna, Harley, David, and Sebastian Clark of New Jersey. She was Great-Great Grandmom to Wesley Baker of Colorado Springs.
