Edna Doris (Anderson) Carpenter passed away peacefully at her home in Calhan, Colorado on Monday, March 27th 2017. She was 93 years old and was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years Gene, her oldest daughter Sandra Bertram; her four siblings – brother Harry Anderson, sister Elsie Cox, sister Wilma Carpenter and sister Fern Rohde; and her parents Robert and Emma Anderson. She is survived by her three remaining children: Linda J. (Michael) Smith, Stephan E. (Nelia) Carpenter, and Jeffrey W. (Annie) Carpenter; six grandchildren: Shawn (Ellen) Carpenter, Shelly (Carl) Martinez, Sara Carpenter, Andy Linthicum, Joseph Carpenter and Corey Carpenter; and eleven great grandchildren.
Edna was born in Fruitland, Idaho, on August 13, 1923, and shortly after the start of WWII Edna joined the Navy. During the war Edna corresponded with her sister’s brother-in-law, Floyd “Gene” Eugene Carpenter. They did not actually meet until the war was over, and Edna married the love of her life on July 21, 1946. They lived in Colorado Springs until Gene was ready to retire. Gene and Edna were very involved in the Boy Scout program with their two boys. They also enjoyed fishing and camping with their family. When Gene retired, they moved to the family ranch outside of Calhan in 1979 to raise cattle.
Gene and Edna were members of and enjoyed the wonderful fellowship of the United Methodist Church in Calhan.
There will be a viewing from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with service at 1:00 pm at the United Methodist Church, 583 Denver Street in Calhan on Saturday, April 22nd. Burial will be at the cemetery in Calhan followed by a reception at the Methodist Church. Flowers may be sent to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
