Donna Lee Basse

Donna was born on May 21, 1936 in Denver Colorado to Vardeman J. Eckert and Marjorie E. (Hitt) Eckert. After college, Donna met her future husband of 60 years, Duane H. Basse. The two were married on May 10, 1959.

Donna was an accomplished tennis player winning tournaments and playing most of her life. She enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, and playing bridge with her many friends. Above all, Donna loved her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Donna is survived by her children - Sherri (Basse) Byrd and her husband Clint, Michael Basse and his wife Carrie, Susan (Basse) Nelsen. Nine grandchildren - Matthew Byrd, Andrew Byrd, Brock Byrd, Heather Basse, Tyler Basse, Alina (Basse) Logan, Amber Nelsen, Mikinzie Nelsen and Rachel Nelsen. Also two great grandchildren - Travis Lovett and Oliver Logan. Her sister Sandy (Eckert) Stenhaug also survives her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Vardeman & Marjorie Eckert and her husband Duane H. Basse.

A memorial service will be held at Grace & St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903, Friday, January 14, 2021 at 10:00 am. Masks are required for the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
