Donald Henry Strobel, 89, Colorado Springs, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at his home. He was born on November 3, 1928, in Chicago, IL, the only child of Josephine Meyr and Henry Strobel. On May 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to Imelda Spokas. They raised their seven children in Cedarburg, WI where they lived for 32 years. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Borgia Church and a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4520 in Cedarburg. After moving to Brookfield, WI for 10 years, they retired in Colorado Springs 18 years ago.
Don was proud of having served his country in Korea while in the US Army from 1950-1952 in the 5th RCT, 24th Division as Sgt 1st Class. He was a member of the American Legion Post #5, Korean War Veterans Assoc. Dutch Nelson Chapter, Non-Commissioned Officers Assoc., Disabled American Veterans, Knob Hill #26 Chapter, 5th RCT Association, and the 24th Infantry Association.
His education included a BSEE in 1958 from the University of Illinois-Urbana under the GI Bill and a MSEE in 1964 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was VP of Research & Development Engineering for Badger Meter Inc., Milwaukee, WI and retired after 39 years. He holds several patents in his name. He belonged to the U of I and U of W Alumni Associations.
His children remember him as the dad who “knew everything and was never wrong”. If anything needed fixing, it was given to dad to fix. He was a die-hard Green Bay Packer fan. He was a generous man and well respected by all who knew him. He had a quick wit, great sense of humor and an incredible Donald Duck impression that entertained his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was one of the last of the generation of men who were really men and will be dearly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Imelda, his children, Deborah (Daniel) Fassbender of St. Marys, KS, Cynthia (John) Noack of Colorado Springs, Mark (Peggy) Strobel of Garden Grove, CA, Suzanne (Kurt) Konicke of Brookfield, WI, Karla (Dale) Georgeff of Cedarburg, WI, Greg (Tammy) Strobel of Colorado Springs, and Bart (Tonya) Strobel of Brentwood, TN, grandchildren Jeffrey (Julie) Fassbender, Jenna Fassbender, Joel (Sharm) Fassbender, Andrew (Silvia) Fassbender, Peter Fassbender, Alena (Marvin) Cash, Aimee, Philip and Alicia Fassbender; Mikayla and Annika Noack; Mark Strobel; Ellyrie (Andre) Condoleo, Paul Revord, and Issabella Konicke; Jeni and Michael Georgeff; Taylor (Derek) Nguyen, Jordan (Gregory) Flanegin; and Mackenzie Strobel: 12 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way. He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter Alexandria Georgeff and son-in-law John Revord.
Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2018, 5:00-8:00 PM at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs. A rosary will be held at 6:30 PM.
A Requiem Mass will be offered on Saturday, April 28, 2018, 11:00 AM at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs.
Interment to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Colorado Springs.
