Donald was born on November 23, 1949 to Willie Naomi Lloyd (mother) and Warren George Lloyd (father), in Gary, Indiana. He attended Williams Elementary School and Pulaski Middle School. Donald was involved in football and the ROTC Rifle Team at Emerson High School (Gary, Indiana) and graduated in 1968. He was a member of the First AME Church of Gary, Indiana.
He attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and later transferred to Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana. He majored in Sociology, and was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
He married Carmen Choice Anita Cowans on June 17, 1970 at First Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana. Their three sons are Donald Lloyd Jr., John Curtis Lloyd, and Patrick Matthew Lloyd. The family resided in Bloomington, Indiana; University Park, Illinois; Atlanta, Georgia; and Colorado Springs, Colorado over a course of years. He was employed by Turner Cable in Gary, Indiana, and Colorado Springs, Colorado as a Chief Technical Officer.
Donald loved jazz and the blues. He loved to sing and dance, and was involved in football from an early age. He was known for his sense of humor, his great cooking, and his exuberant voice. He was a big man with a big spirit. He helped raise his grandchildren, and loved his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carmen Lloyd; his sons, Donald Jr., John, and Patrick; daughters-in-law, La Trisha, Aubrey and Cayla. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Patrick Jr. and Caelab Lloyd Jr., John Lloyd Jr., Autumn and Brianna Lloyd; Shanita, Shavonia, and Shanea Lloyd; his great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He is also survived by siblings: Sandra Lloyd-Howell, George Lloyd, Annette Holland, Ruth Lloyd, Julia Lloyd, Warren Lloyd, and was pre-deceased by Veronica Lloyd.
Visitation will be from 1-3 pm on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Services will be at 2pm on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the same address. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he can continue to enjoy the mountains he loved.
