Donald Edward Baxter, age 88, of Colorado Springs, CO went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 09, 2014. Donald was born on November 21, 1925 in Palmyra, MO to Frank and Margaret Baxter. Donald was married to Gladys Teresa Schwartz on September 4, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra, MO.
Don was a 1943 graduate from Palmyra High School and honorably served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He was a partner of BF Bulk Milk Service of Hannibal, MO which provided bulk milk hauling service for the Northeastern Missouri area. He relocated to Colorado Springs in 1971 where he worked for Brookhart’s Lumber and continued on with Foxworth Galbraith Lumber through 2010. During his employment with Brookhart’s, he began his side business of building doghouses and became known as “the Doghouse Man”, building over 4,000 doghouses.
Don enjoyed special time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing baseball in his early years and had a passion for watching the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys of 66 years and his 6 children James (Jeanne) of Brighton, CO, Gary of Calvert City, KY, Victoria (William) of Aurora, CO, Catherine (Howard) of Bryant, AR, Julie (Michael) of Alexander, AR and Edward (Patricia) of Colorado Springs, CO and his seven grandchildren, Justin, Jamie, Brandon, Ryan, Sara, Preston and Spencer. He is also survived by his sisters: Allene Pollitt of Florissant, MO and Margaret Skeen of Sarasota, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Herbert Baxter, Margary Hagene, Mildred Fogle and William Baxter.
Don was a friend to all and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 4PM to 7PM at the Swan Law Funeral Home. A rosary and service will be held at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church at 10:45AM on Thursday, November 13, 2014.
