Dennis Bruce Green passed away on July 27, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, where he lived near his daughter and her family. He was born on April 2, 1940, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He lived there until he met Karen and followed her to Colorado Springs. They were married in October 1963, and they would live together in Colorado for the next 57 years until Karen passed away from cancer in 2021.
Born to German-American parents, Dennis grew up on an acreage in Lincoln and learned the value of hard work early in his life. At 13 years old, he worked a garbage route and would hold many different jobs as a young person. Over the years he also worked as a tool and die maker, a manufacturing engineer, and a mechanical engineer, spending much of his career working in the aerospace industry.
Dennis loved being outside–working on cars, collecting scrap metal, hunting elk, and walking around the neighborhood with his dogs. He also enjoyed collecting and fixing guns.
He made many friends over the years and was glad to tell stories about his adventures or his expertise with guns or metalwork. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was shoveling a neighbor’s driveway or welding a part for a friend’s trailer. He would even help the Women’s Ministry at his church set up for their annual bazaar to raise money for missions.
Dennis leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Brian Lawrence; grandsons, Noah and Toby; and a host of friends, neighbors, and caregivers, all of whom will cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs. A private family burial will take place at the Calhan Cemetery.
