Last October mom and dad celebrate their 65th in Columbine manor,  Salida, CO. Part of the immediate family there, Diane, Barb. Cathy, Cindy, Me, nephews, nieces etc. in a small room.

Uncle Delbert was my 'Second Father" I grew up with him and he taught me how to drive at 10yrs old in Colorado Springs. Whenever we would travel as a little boy, I always rode with him in his Ford Ranger XLT( Turquoise) when we went Elk hunting. He would always be towing his '49 Willys behind and I begged profusely until I could get out and drive it over the road with me in the rocking-chair  and my father Courtney Brandon following behind.  The pic you see of the blaze orange Willy's was 1977. when two Elk were taken off of Marshall pass near Gunnison, CO. It was Winter and I was 14. dad killed the 5 Point and I the 4 Point(my first one). It was a war zone everyone shooting and we were in the middle of it! I still have that mark on my gun when i stuck the 270 into an ammo-box in the back as dad wheeled around a guy in the road on an embankment. LOL Delbert was the kindest man I ever met, gentle and never raised his voice. He raised my father during the Great Depression. My father never had shoes on his feet in the 30s and he slept in an old wrecked car because they were so poor, something dad is reluctant to admit; but uncle Delbert cared for his needs. Both of their other brothers were at War and the oldest came home with a seeing eye dog, one of the first Service Dogs of the time (Queenie)! Delbert was aboard the Mighty Missouri the day the treaty was signed ending WW2. He is one of the guards standing behind Gen. Yamamoto! Men and Women like these were "nation-builders". They had a purpose, morals and Honor. There will be an Honor Guard ceremony soon and since my father is ill with Cancer and cannot travel, I will stand in his place. My father is now the "Last of the Mohicans" as is my mother with her family. Uncle Delbert, thank you for making me the man i am today! I will see you soon at the Resurrection Jesus foretold would happen. [ Acts 24:15,16] Sleep Now, you certainly have earned it! Your Nephew Steve"(T--Bone)"
