He was born in Hastings, Nebraska, on September 9, 1922. He was married to his high school sweetheart Lois Brainard from 1945 until her death in 1984.
A West Point Graduate, Class of 1945, Col. Thomas served his country faithfully all over the world until his retirement in 1975. During active duty, he shot with the All Army Pistol Team and earned a Distinguished Pistol Badge.
He never lost his love of learning. He acquired both a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and an MBA from the University of Colorado.
He married Alice Marie Thomas in 1988.
During his retirement he pursued many, varied interests. He generously volunteered his time and energy for the American Legion, Sertoma club, and his favorite students at Summit Elementary in Divide, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Marie Thomas, his children, Barbara Oliver (Scott), Dwight P. Thomas, Elizabeth Wilson (Barry), Edward Thomas (Martha), stepson, Kenneth W. Atkinson, sister, Dorris Lanning (Dean), four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, cousins, nieces, nephews and many beloved friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Swan Law Funeral Directors 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80903.
