Daniel: beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on September 11, 2019 with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born in Alamosa, Colorado on April 30, 1939 to Benita and Santiago Montoya, one of 11 children. Daniel was raised in Pueblo, Colorado. He graduated from Midwest Business College and from USC receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He met Cynthia “Cindy” Williams in Pueblo and they were married September 3, 1971. The family then moved to Colorado Springs where he worked and retired from the City of Colorado Springs working in the JTPA Program. After retiring, he worked for the Air Force Academy, Colorado College and Webster University. Daniel was blessed with 5 wonderful sons; Joseph, Timothy, Steve, Henry and Daniel Jr. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Watching them grow up to be happy and successful was truly a blessing to him.
Church was a priority to Daniel, and he had a lifelong calling to do good for others. He served at St. Mary’s Cathedral for over 20 years as an usher and greeter, having a tremendous impact on those who attended there. We find peace knowing that he is with his Eternal Father. He was a family man and an amazing father; spending time with his family brought him great joy. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, travelling in the motor home, boating and all other outdoor activities. He was the best neighbor that anyone could ask for, always helpful and willing to lend a hand. He showed his generosity and kindness to all he met. He was welcoming and invited people he didn’t know well to coffee, dinner or to share stories of the best fishing holes around. He had a love for animals, especially dogs, and had several special canine companions through his life. Cindy remembers him as a gentle soul. Through his illness he never lost his strength or courage, and he chose to stay as active as he could till the very end. He will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Cindy; sons, Joseph (Deb), Steve and Daniel Jr.; daughters-in-law Ramie and Liz; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Lorenzo (Debbie), Michael (Penny), Jean (Rick) Pounds, Maria (Rick) Craig and Tina Schaibley; sisters-in-law, Alice and Clarinda; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benita and Santiago; sons, Henry and Timothy; siblings Santiago “Nick”, Florentino, David, Tommy and Debbie.
Daniel’s family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support through this difficult time. The gestures of sympathy are much appreciated.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019, 10:00am at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 22 W Kiowa St, Colorado Springs 80903. Daniel's urn will be placed in the Columbarium in the Courtyard of the church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
1 Peter 5:2
2 Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.
