He is now reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Rose Mary Mintert Springer, who predeceased him in 2014. Dale will be greatly missed by his family: son, Lonnie, daughters, Kathleen, Mary Ann, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters and friends.
Dale was born to Mamie and Joseph Springer on Nov. 6, 1925 in West Alton, MO. He was the oldest of 13 children, growing up in a small farming community. He was drafted into the infantry at age 19 on Sept. 2, 1944 and was a frontline scout in Germany during WWII. Through many prayers, Dale survived, returning home to marry Rose Mary on Oct. 4, 1946. He was stationed to Fort Lewis WA, where they began a family. Lonnie was born Mar. 24, 1947 and Kathleen on June 8, 1949. In 1950, a new appointment took the young family to Fort Richardson, in Anchorage Alaska. A 1580 mile gravel / dirt highway was not for the faint of heart. A remote place where grizzly bears lounged on airport runways, moose roamed the streets, Inuit people came to sell their furs and people gathered to watch the Iditarod dog sled races. They lived in Anchorage for 6 yrs., until Dale was stationed back to Fort Lewis, WA. In 1961, Dale was sent to South Korea. Rose Mary took the children back to their hometown, in West Alton, where she gave birth to their youngest daughter, Mary Ann, on April 16, 1961. Dale finally met Mary Ann 18 months later and the family packed up for his last appointment at Fort Carson, in Colorado Springs, CO. Dale retired after 20 yrs. of service on, Oct. 1, 1964 as a Sgt. Major. The family fell in love with Colorado and it became their permanent home - building a residence in Holland Park development, with a beautiful view of Pikes Peak. Dale worked for a window company, then began his own construction remodeling company. They enjoyed many years of camping and fishing in the mountains. Although nothing can replace the loss of our parents, we cherish the special memories we shared.
