Coy Lee Miller passed away on July 29, 2012 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Coy was born June 29, 1953 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and was a very proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma Boomer Sooners! After leaving the Navy in 1989, the Miller family moved to Colorado Springs and have been here since.
Coy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Brenda; a son, Scott Lee Miller; a daughter, Shannon “Kelli” Miller; brother, Kenny Robertson and two very beloved grandchildren Addison Grace Miller and Ethan Jack Miller.
Coy was a pilot with American Airlines for over 23 years. He was always known for his outstanding abilities as a pilot and his great wit and composure under pressure. In 2010, Captain Coy Miller was recognized by American Airlines for his performance under pressure in New York on a flight where the engine shredded on take-off. Because of the efforts of Coy and his co-pilot, the plane and passengers were saved. The Flight Department at LaGuardia Airport placed Coy’s name on MD80 #433 due to his handling of the incident. If not for his exceptional ability, the plane and passengers could have easily been lost. All who know Coy, know he was a great pilot and on that day, he was one of the best.
Coy was a retired Major from the Air Force. He met most of his Harley riding buddies at the Oklahoma Air National Guard or American Airlines. His family wants his riding buddies to know that Coy loved you all and that he died doing what he loved. He looked forward to your annual rides and would not have missed them for the world. Be courageous in your thoughts of this ride and remember the good about it. Remember his laugh, his smile, his love of life and his love of family and friends. God Bless You All and Be Safe!
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Coy's memory to a wildlife foundation or to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
