Paul was the son of Charles and Kathleen (Murray) Baerman, born in Lansing Michigan on May 6, 1947.
As an Army brat, he lived in various locations in the United States and Europe before embarking on his own 26-year Army career. A distinguished graduate of West Point in 1968, he married Kerry Ann Harrigan the same year. He served in Vietnam and commanded Armor and Cavalry units from platoon through brigade. Paul was awarded numerous decorations, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star for Valor (four oak leaf clusters), and two Purple Hearts. He was an Olmsted Scholar, earning a graduate degree in International Relations from the University of Geneva, Switzerland in 1974. After his Army retirement in 1994, Paul worked as a master planner at HB&A in Colorado Springs until 2012.
Throughout his life, Paul was active in the Catholic Church as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, adult Bible study teacher, and organizer of the St Peter Parish Library. Paul and Kerry moved to Washington State in 2020 to be near to family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son Colin, and brother Malcolm.
Paul leaves behind his devoted wife of 54 years, daughter Megan (Doug) Uken, grandchildren Caitlin (Liam) and Ryan; son Sean (Mandy) Baerman, and grandson Teague; and brother Robb.
Paul always considered himself a “serviceman” of his Lord and Nation and took as his models Saints Peter and Francis, but also served as a role model for his family, cadets, soldiers, and all those who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, April 3, 2023 at St Peter Catholic Church in Monument, CO.
A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors is to follow at 11:30AM at Monument Cemetery in Monument, CO.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Rocky Mountain Youth Leadership Foundation, Inc. (RMYLF) a Colorado IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit since 1992.
