Christine was born to the late Ethel Ellen Vaughn Thomas and Walter Thomas on September 19, 1917 on the family farm in Heavener, Oklahoma, where she grew up with close ties to the Mount View Baptist church and her extended family.
Christine got her first job at the Oklahoma state capital in Oklahoma City in 1937. She met and married the late George Myron Douglass in Victor Oklahoma, in 1938. They had two children, a son, Bruce Myron Douglass, born in Heavener, Oklahoma, and a daughter, Gwynne Ellen (Douglass) Stanker, born in Los Angeles, California. When the family moved back to Oklahoma City, Christine joined the civil service and was employed at Tinker Air Force base as a Secretary. The family then moved to Colorado, where she remained in the civil service at Ent Air Force base as an Executive Secretary. She retired after 30 years of civil service in Colorado Springs, having won numerous honors and awards for her service as a federal employee.
Survivors include Christine’s son Bruce Douglass (wife Judy), and his son Scott Ethersmith (wife Juniper) and Scott’s two sons, Arcus and Linden; as well as Bruce’s daughter, Cindi (Douglass) Douglas (husband Randy), and Cindi’s two sons, Zaedon and Devon. Christine is also survived by a daughter, Gwynne (Douglass) Stanker (husband Michael), Gwynne’s son, Michael Christopher Stanker (wife Patricia), and Michael’s two sons, Corey Stanker and Connor Stanker (wife Katie). Connor Stanker’s daughter Brooklyn Bjornholt-Stanker became Christine’s first great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be offered on Tuesday, May 11 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Memorial Gardens’ chapel, 3825 Airport Road, 80910, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Memorial service (funeral) will be on the following day, Wednesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at the same chapel in Memorial Gardens. A brief committal service will follow.
