Charles Edward Mattix, age 85, a resident of Fountain,
Colorado since 1988 passed away on May 4, 2016.
He was born on April 6, 1931 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to the late America Hamilton and Caspian Seay Mattix. Charles
received a bachelor's degree from Arkansas State University in 1959. He married Sok Bo Chong in 1965 at the American Embassy in Seoul, Korea.
Early on, he worked on his family's farm and taught at the
Valley View School in Arkansas.
Charles served his country with the 701st Maintenance
Battalion 1st Infantry Division during the Vietnam War and retired from the United States Army as a Major in 1979. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Engineer School and the Command and General Staff College. He received numerous awards including the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
He had a second career with the Department of Defense Troop Support and Aviation Materiel Readiness Command and retired in 1997. He enjoyed working on his cars and
researching family genealogy. Charles also enjoyed traveling and cherished his travels with his family in Europe while living in Germany. He was a kind and loving father and husband.
Charles is survived by his wife, Sok Bo; daughter, Carla Mattix (husband Victor Johnson); sister, Janice Mattix; brother, Dale Mattix; sister-in-law Kim Won Sook, and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. A committal service will be held Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Charles' memory to the American Heart Association.
